An LED model like the Lexmark Optra 1200 color laser printer offers shorter warm up and first page out times and applies all of the toner colors at once. This system also has fewer moving parts which means less money and costs in maintaining the unit over its life of use. The Lexmark 1200 color laser printer, also known as the 1200N, is not being manufactured anymore, but service and parts are easy to find; this also makes it far less expensive and more suited for a home or small business.
Color graphics are printed at 12 pages per minute and with surprisingly good quality for the occasional color print. The unit can be networked and can support up to 3 users, not a bad choice for a small office. Installed memory is 32 MB which you will most surely want to expand to the full 128 MB to handle larger and more complex print jobs. The coverage estimator is also included with the unit and lets you track color usage and better project the cost of your prints.
Lexmark Optra 1200 toner cartridges are a bit more expensive than comparable models. Each color laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 6,500 pages, as does the single black printer toner cartridge. The smaller capacity makes the Lexmark 1200 toner cartridges more expensive on a cost per page basis.
The top of the machine has the output tray located there for easy removal of finished documents along with an LCD interface with a few buttons with which to navigate the options. The Lexmark 1200 is compatible with PC, UNIX, Mac, and Sun platforms, thus making it easier to add to your network and use immediately.
