The Konica Minolta magicolor 1600W is a color laser printer designed for the home or small office. With more speed and print quality than most home office printers, it still manages to stay compact and affordable, like the HP 1600 toner printer.
The magicolor 1600W sports a very compact design. It measures 10.9 inches by 15.6 inches by 15 inches (HWD), but these measurements are a little misleading, as they are based on the 1600W's input and output trays being closed. Obviously, they must both be open when printing and most users will not want the inconvenience of having to open the trays and load paper every time they need to print. Users should plan on an extra 6" on the front of the unit when the trays are open. The printer weighs 32 pounds, including the printer toner cartridge, so it should be fairly easy to move around for most users.
A wide variety of media types and sizes are supported, allowing for much more flexibility than the average home or small office printer. The 1600W supports media types such as postcards, envelopes, and labels, and media sizes such as letter, executive, legal, and folio.
Konica Minolta 1600W toner tends to be a little more expensive than some competing printers. The Konica Minolta magicolor 1600W toner cartridge also has a relatively small toner capacity. The standard toner cartridges have a capacity of 1,500 each, but high-yield cartridges are available in capacities of 2,500 each. The Konica Minolta magicolor 1600W toners consist of the standard array of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black cartridges.
Print speed is faster than most printers in its class, at around 20 pages per minute in black and 5 pages per minute in color. For a faster model, evaluate the magicolor 2430 toner printer. Print quality is quite good. Text is very sharp and detailed, and readable at small font sizes. Color quality is a little below average. Its colors are sometimes inaccurate, but color quality is good for its price.
Overall, excluding the laser toner cartridge prices, the printer offers excellent speed and text quality for an affordable price. Color quality is passable from the Konica Minolta 1600W toner, but its compact size gets a little larger during use.
