The HP OfficeJet V45 is a very compact all-in-one color inkjet that provides a lot more functionality than a dedicated printer, but don't expect a lot of extras like a flatbed scanner. Print speeds are a maximum of 8 pages per minute for monochrome and 7 pages per minute in color, but higher-quality settings will be even slower, and HP V45 printer ink is expensive.
Given that the V45 only measures 9.5x17.8x12.9 inches and weighs only 17.5 pounds, perhaps it is surprising that it can handle printing, scanning, faxing, and copying all in such a small machine. In fact, it does a fairly good job of each function, but users are limited to a 20-page automatic document feeder for any functions that require scanning, with no flatbed platen to handle media like stapled pages or books. Obviously, this was done to reduce the unit's size, but might be too much of a limitation for some potential buyers.
Print quality is solid, with a resolution of up to 2400x1200 dpi when using color OfficeJet V45 printer ink on special photo paper. The unit also supports other media types like transparencies and envelopes for added flexibility. The input paper tray can hold up to 150 sheets, and the output tray can hold up to 50 sheets.
Like many inkjet models, the cost of OEM HP V45 ink cartridges can be a bit high. Choosing compatible HP V45 ink is a much better option, and can be around half the price, making it a much better value for the long term. The system uses a single black supply with a yield of up to 450 pages, and a combined tricolor HP V45 ink cartridge with a yield of up to 500 pages.
While the HP V45 doesn't have some of the features or larger devices, it makes a good compromise to achieve its compact design, while still providing a lot of functionality for small office spaces. Buyers who don't mind the lack of a flatbed scanner will find it a good value at the price.
