The HP OfficeJet R60 is a basic all-in-one inkjet printer, but it lacks faxing and networking capabilities. It also lacks compatibility with any operating system other than Windows. Most small offices will need to look elsewhere for a more efficient and work-group friendly unit. Home users will appreciate the reliability of the R60, but if speed is on the agenda, they might want to keep looking.
Featuring only two HP R60 ink cartridges, this device uses drop-on-demand thermal technology to produce the most realistic and professional text documents and graphics possible. Regardless if the black or color OfficeJet R60 ink cartridge is being used for printing, the maximum resolution that can be reached is 600x600 dpi. When scanning or copying in black or color printer ink, up to 600x2400 dpi can be obtained.
The printer and the copier produce the same output rate. Using black HP R60 ink, as many as 11 pages per minute can be printed. Only 8.5 pages per minute can be produced using the multi-color printer ink. The copier can also make up to 99 duplicates from an original. The scanner has a color-bit of 24 and uses OCR, or Optical Character Recognition, to convert scanned text into editable text.
Considering the monthly capacity for this inkjet printer is 3,000 pages, if used to full capacity the OfficeJet R60 ink will need to be replaced frequently. This could get pricey, which is another reason this unit should be in a home rather than an office. On the bright side, remanufactured HP R60 ink is available for less than half the price of brand-name ink.
An automatic document feeder and 4 MB memory come built-in to the R60. It is not exactly compact, weighing over 26 pounds and measuring 18.45x17.25x31.71 inches. The HP R60 is a great choice for any standard user.
