The HP PSC 2175 is an all-in-one inkjet printer with poor speeds but great quality. It is designed for small businesses but will fall short if faxing is a necessity. Comprised of a scanner, copy machine and color printer, most tasks can be completed using a single device. Home users will benefit from the professional looking photos, but might want to look around at units that are exclusively for photo printing that will cost less than a multi-functioning printer.
Using only black HP PSC 2175 ink, 16 pages can be printed or copied in one minute. With the color printer ink, 12 pages can be produced per minute for either feature. The copier can print up to 50 duplicates from one original, and it has the ability to zoom in up to 200%. The scanner has an 8-bit grayscale and a 24-bit internal color depth that can be upgraded to 48-bit with the proper software.
This inkjet unit is capable of producing excellent resolutions with the newly-improved HP PSC 2175 ink. Resolution is measured with DPI, or dots-per-inch. Nozzles dispense the printer ink onto the paper in very small dots, and HP PhotoREt III technology layers them to enhance and perfect images. The scanner can reach a maximum resolution of 1200x2400 dpi. With black HP PSC 2175 ink, the maximum possible resolution is 1200x1200 dpi, and with color it is 1200x4800 dpi.
There are two HP PSC 2170 ink cartridges, one containing black ink and the other with cyan, magenta and yellow. They can yield up to 520 and 400 pages, respectively. There is also an optional photo HP PSC 2170 ink cartridges that further increases the resolution of pictures. It yields only 140 pages, so it should not be used recreationally. The HP 2170 is an affordable, multi-purpose printer that will satisfy users with its quality production.
