For a personal laser printer, the HP LaserJet P1008 provides decent speeds and adequate output quality. Using it in a small office could be a challenge, without networking support, and its limited paper capacity could be a factor as well. Speeds of 16 pages per minute are a good fit for a busy individual, however, and compatible alternatives for LaserJet P1008 printer toner can make it budget-friendly to operate.
The P1008 has a maximum output resolution of 600 dpi, which makes it well-suited to everyday text documents, but may suffer a bit for graphics and photos. It connects via USB, but doesn't include an ethernet port or a wireless connection for sharing.
The input paper capacity is 150 sheets, and is not upgradeable for future expansion. The monthly duty cycle of the P1008 is only 5,000 pages, so it won't handle large volumes of output, either. Lack of automatic duplexing probably won't be a major deterrent for most buyers, but it can be useful for conserving paper. The first page out time of 9 seconds is actually quite good for such an affordable device.
The machine itself measures 7.63x13.66x8.81 inches, so it will be a comfortable fit on a desk, even when sharing with a computer. It weighs only 10.36 pounds, even with the HP P1008 toner installed, so it is easy to lift and move around.
Replacement toners only come in one size, but one HP P1008 toner cartridge provides up to 1,500 pages before needing replaced. Some vendors sell LaserJet P1008 toner cartridges in packs of two or more at a volume discount as well, to keep the cost per page a bit lower. Compatible HP P1008 toner turns out to be the best value, however, at a much lower price than OEM supplies.
For personal users who want an efficient, affordable, and compact printer, the HP P1008 is a solid choice. It doesn't have a lot of advanced features compared to some in its class, but it provides solid text output for everyday printing.

The LaserJet P1008 is equipped for output speeds of up to 15 pages per minute, and it supports a print resolution of 600 dpi. This is despite its compact design that is perfect for use on a desk surface. It connects via USB port, and has a paper tray that holds up to 150 sheets.
Make sure the printer is powered up, then lift and open the output paper tray on top. The access panel can be lifted from the handle on the left side, then grasp the HP P1008 toner cartridge by its small handle and pull it out of the opening.
Prepare the replacement P1008 cartridge by removing it from the box and the packing materials. Open the plastic bag carefully and remove it as well. You need to shake the cartridge back and forth several times to loosen up the toner powder inside before installation.
Pull on the piece of black paper that protects the cartridge drum, then place a finger inside the loop at one end. Pull the loop away from the cartridge to remove the packing tape strip.
Align the LaserJet P1008 cartridge with the guides on either side of the opening and slide it down into place. Close the access panel to complete the process.
You are now ready to resume printing with your LaserJet P1008 laser printer.
