The HP LaserJet Enterprise 700 M712n is built for high-volume monochrome laser printing, and it can reach speeds of up to 40 pages per minute. Its control panel is fairly basic, it lacks duplexing, but its paper capacity can be expanded quite a bit. It is reasonably affordable for an enterprise model, and high-capacity HP M712n printer toner keeps the cost per page lower than some of the competition.
In addition to the M712n, the M712 series also includes the M712dn model with the addition of automatic duplexing, and the M712xh that also adds 500 sheets more paper capacity and a hard disk. The paper capacity of the M712n can be upgraded, and duplexing is available as an upgrade as well, but the hard disk is not an upgradeable feature. All models can use both the standard and high-capacity LaserJet Enterprise 700 M712n toner, which makes it more affordable for the whole line. Additional paper capacity upgrades are available as well.
Surprisingly compact given its quick speeds, the M712n measures 15.4x22.4x23.4 inches in its basic configuration, and it weighs just 76.5 pounds including the HP M712n toner supplies. A 2-inch 4-line LCD panel is included on the control panel, along with an array of buttons and LED indicators. While not as impressive as a touchscreen display, most of the printer's functions will be handled at the computer anyway.
A standard HP M712n toner cartridge has a yield of up to 10,000 pages, and is fairly affordable to replace. High-capacity LaserJet Enterprise 700 M712n toner cartridges are the better deal, however, providing up to 17,500 pages, and allowing users to order replacement toners less frequently.
Larger offices might find that the M712n doesn't have enough speed or upgradeability for their needs, and smaller office might not have the budget for it. For those in the sweet spot in between, however, its fast speeds and excellent print quality are impressive enough to recommend it.
