Small offices, or even individuals, who want to upgrade to a multifunction laser printer but don't want to sacrifice quality should give the HP LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn a look. The unit goes by multiple names, such as M425 and MFP M425, which both refer to the base model, M425dn and MFP M425dn, which refer to the model with duplexing and networking, and MFP M425dw and M425dw, which refer to yet another model that includes wireless support. All models use the same HP M425dn printer toner for convenience.
As a multifunction device, the M425dn can print, scan, copy, and fax. It also has a front-mounted USB port that is designed for printing from flash drives and other storage media. The large color touchscreen offers easy control of each function, and gets rid of the clutter of extra buttons. Users can use the ePrint platform to print all kinds of images and documents from the web, as well as send documents to the printer remotely via email.
Scanning, faxing, and copying take advantage of the large 50-sheet automatic document feeder, and scans can be sent to a network folder, an email address, and more. HP's Smart Install routine makes it fast and easy to set up, and doesn't even require a driver CD in most cases, with the device providing the driver to the computer directly.
The high cost of toners is the machine's real weakness. The standard LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn toner cartridges have a capacity of 2,700 pages each, but high-capacity HP M425dn toner cartridges offer a lower cost per page and provide up to 6,900 pages. For the best savings, many users will want to opt for compatible HP M425dn toner supplies, as they are much less expensive than OEM versions.
With the major functions most small offices will need, automatic duplexing to conserve paper, and fast printing speeds, the M425dn gives users a lot for such a low price. If buyers can manage costs for LaserJet Pro 400 M425dn toner, it can be an economical solution for everyday office tasks.
