A little outdated with features that are slightly underwhelming but useful nonetheless, the HP LaserJet Pro M1214 is an older multipurpose laser machine that was designed to fit comfortably on a desktop and handle basic daily needs in a small office. This machine has the ability to print, scan, copy and fax, which should cover almost all professional tasks. With so much versatility and power, it is hard to imagine that the M1214 is a mere 18 pounds with a boxy black frame that measures approximately 12x10x17 inches.
There is a single standard input tray that can hold up to 100 sheets of standard paper, 75 sheets of transparency paper and 10 envelopes. The output tray holds only 100 sheets and the automatic document feeder that sits atop the cover of the flatbed scanner can hold 35 sheets. An ADF is beneficial when scanning multiple documents continuously. Duplex copying and printing are both available and the fax function has a 500-page memory for delayed transmission.
As a small office monochrome printer, only one HP M1214 toner cartridge is used. It holds black printer toner and can yield about 1,600 pages before expiring. A message will be displayed on the LCD that sits on the front of the machine alerting users when LaserJet Pro M1214 toner is running low. Replacement toners can be found online from a number of vendors. Third party vendors offer compatible HP M1214 toner, which is supposed to produce the same number of pages and same quality, but at a lower cost than the brand name. The third-party LaserJet Pro M1214 toner cartridges will provide a low cost per page.
As many as 19 pages can be printed each minute with a maximum resolution of 600x600 dpi using the HP M1214 toner. Nothing about this machine is overly advanced, but it will be a solid choice for small offices.
