The HP LaserJet Pro M1136 is a monochrome laser printer with addition functions, copying and scanning, that make it an ideal unit for a work environment. However, its low-volume capabilities, minimal paper capacity and low-yielding printer toner limit it to home or small offices. The M1136 is not designed to handle the heavy daily needs of large offices and will be more trouble than it is worth in that atmosphere.
As it only offers a basic USB port for connection, this laser unit can only work with a single computer unless a universal networking adapter is purchased. The operating system is irrelevant because all major platforms, including Mac and Windows, are compatible. The design of the M1136 may not be as sleek and savvy as some newer models on the market, but the square black frame should mesh with most home décor. It weighs about 15 pounds and measures approximately 10x10x16 inches.
The maximum printing resolution is 600x600 dpi using the HP M1136 toner, which will create professional-quality text documents, but limit graphics printing. When making duplicates, though, the LaserJet Pro M1136 toner can yield a disappointing resolution of 300x300 dpi. Without the use of printer toner, the internal scanning resolution is 1200x1200 dpi. In addition, documents can be scanned with full color, while the single HP M1136 toner cartridge that holds only black printer toner can only produce black-and-white documents.
When it comes to the issue of replacement toners, there are a number of options. Standard name-brand LaserJet Pro M1136 toner cartridges that yield up to 1,600 pages each can be purchased from the manufacturer or certified resellers. For a more affordable option, though, third party vendors offer compatible HP M1136 toner that will provide the same yield and quality, but for half the price.
