The scanner can scan documents up to 8.5x11.7 inches, and it can reach enhanced resolutions of up to 19,200 ppi.

The copying and printing functions both use two HP OfficeJet J5785 ink cartridges, although an optional third photo printer ink tank is available. The black and color ink tanks print with resolutions of 1200x1200 dpi and 4800 dpi, respectively. It prints in fast mode 20 pages per minute with only black HP J5785 ink and 13 pages per minute with color. Using the black or color HP J5785 ink cartridge, it can copy with a resolution of 600x600 dpi in the best setting and 300x300 dpi in normal; it can copy up to 100 copies from an original document.

When printing photos, it is best to use the optional HP J5785 ink tank for the highest quality. In order to use this tank, the black printer ink must be removed. This inkjet unit can print a photo in about 45 seconds. Though some may find the price tag on the replacement tanks to seem somewhat expensive, many third party vendors offer remanufactured HP J5785 ink for a fraction of the price, making this OfficeJet even more affordable than it already is.
