Buyers no longer have to spend a lot for simple printing, scanning, and copying at home. The HP Deskjet F2440 all-in-one color inkjet includes all of these features for an affordable retail price, without sacrificing too much when it comes to speed and output quality. The cost of Deskjet F2440 printer ink can add up, but high-capacity alternatives are available.
Even at its fastest speed setting, the F2440 can only reach a maximum of 16 pages per minute for black and 13 for color, which is not overly impressive, and higher quality settings will be even slower. For the average home user printing low volumes, this probably won't be an issue, however. Its input paper tray holds only 80 sheets, which is also a little limited.
The only option for connecting the F2440 to a computer is a single USB port. Copying works in standalone mode without the need for a computer. It does not include any networking support, nor does it have some of the newer features in HP's other inkjet models like ePrint. It does, however, include HP Smart Web Printing software for editing and organizing web pages so that they print just the way a user wants, without unnecessary ads and other elements that can waste a lot of HP F2440 printer ink.
Standard HP F2440 ink cartridges seem a little overpriced and have capacities of only 165 pages for color and 200 pages for black. High-capacity Deskjet F2440 ink cartridges are a better value, with up to 3 times the capacity. Remanufactured HP F2440 ink offers the best of both, however, at lower prices and higher capacities.
The Deskjet F2440 may not be the most full-featured all-in-one in its category, but it includes the essentials for a very low retail price. If buyers can manage their operating costs, it is a good value for home use.
