The HP Photosmart D7168 is a standard inkjet color printer designed for basic home printing. It lacks any multi-functional capabilities, such as scanning or faxing. It does, however, print photos at a high resolution. The maximum resolution is 4800x1200 dpi using color HP D7168 ink, and 1200x1200 dpi in black. This is an impressive resolution for a basic printer.

One of the nice features about the D7168 is that it is capable of printing on various types or paper, such as plain, inkjet, photo and panoramic. It is also able to print on other products like envelopes, labels, greeting and index cards, iron-on transfers and transparencies. Using the black Photosmart D7168 ink, it can print up to 32 pages per minute. In color printer ink, it can only get 31 pages per minute printed. It can create a 4x6 inch color photo in as little as 14 seconds.

Out of the six HP D7168 ink cartridges, two of them are new additions. The light cyan and light magenta have been added to enhance the accuracy of colors so photos will look more like the original. The other four Photosmart D7168 ink cartridges are standard colors for printers—cyan, magenta, yellow and black. All of these can be found for a reasonable price. The tanks of printer ink have a high page yield, but it is perfect for mid-volume printing.

The D7168 has a 100 sheet input tray and a 20 sheet output tray. It contains 64 MB RAM and weighs 17 pounds. It will fit in any home office with the dimensions of 6.8x18.2x15.25 inches. With a monthly duty cycle of 3,000 pages, if users use this to its max, they will need to purchase multiple replacements of the HP D7168 ink. All in all, this is a cost effective, solid printer.
