With its weight of 21.4 pounds and dimensions of 20.9x9.2x18.3 inches, it is a little bulky. It can, however, still fit comfortably onto any small home or desk space. Connected by USB, it can print on an array of media types including cards, envelopes, labels, photo paper, greeting cards, plain paper, iron-on transfers and transparencies. Borderless photos can also be created by the D7145.

On the front of this inkjet device is a preview screen measuring 2.4". Using black Photosmart D7145 ink, it can print up to 32 pages a minute; using color printer ink it prints at up to 31 pages a minute. Its fast speeds will suit a home office well. Though the HP D7145 has a monthly duty cycle of 3000 pages, the output tray holds only 50 sheets. Only standard printing features are available—scanning, copying, networking and telecom are all obsolete. Mac and Windows operating systems are both compatible.

Six HP D7145 ink cartridges are included upon purchase of this device—black, cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta. For buyers, this means six different inks to keep up on, which could be a hassle to some. However, due to having many different Photosmart D7145 ink cartridges, ink will need to be purchased less frequently, and when one printer ink runs out, only that tank will need to be replaced. This will cut down on waste tremendously and give users the best amount of usage possible. All of these HP D7145 ink cartridges have yields above 370 pages, meaning they will last for a good amount of time, and the cost of each tank is relatively inexpensive compared to others on the market.
