The HP Deskjet D4268 is a thermal inkjet printer with a print speed of 30 ppm for monochrome and 23 ppm for color prints. The small desktop footprint and folding 80-sheet input tray are thoughtful design features that make the D4268 useful for confined spaces.
The Deskjet D4268 measures 459 (W) x 342 (D) x 144 (H) mm and weighs a mere 7.7 pounds. Its appeal lies in being an inexpensive, no-frills printer. It does not include faxing or scanning capabilities; instead it is a simple, sturdy printing device that delivers on price and performance. This said, there is a lot you can do with this unit which supports paper, envelopes, transparencies, labels, cards, iron-on transfers and borderless media. The machine kit includes 2 cartridges, the HP 74 black ink cartridge which can yield up to 170 pages and the HP 75 tri-color ink cartridge which gives up to 165 pages. You can expect a duty cycle of 3000 letter-sized pages per month.
A built-in print cancel button helps save paper and ink. There are two USB ports for connectivity, one in the front and one at the back. The USB port in the front connects to USB devices while the port in the rear is for connecting to a Windows or a Mac OS. In the absence of PictBridge compatibility, printing from a camera or any such USB device necessitates routing the process via the PC.
Since it is a small-bodied device, the Deskjet D4268 tends to vibrate when churning out pages; it can be a good idea to secure it on to a solid surface. Duplex printing is not automatic; and you have to reinsert the paper manually for two-side printing. There is no networking or modem support.
