The HP Deskjet D2400 inkjet printer is quite compact, easy to use, and very affordable, making it an ideal choice for home use. It still prints at a high resolution of 1200 dpi, however, and at speeds of up to 12.5 pages per minute at the fastest settings. It lacks network support, and HP D2400 printer ink isn't as cost-effective as some of its competition.
If a small footprint and compact frame are important, the D2400 will be an excellent fit. It measures only 5.6 inches tall, with a footprint of 16.9x16.3 inches and weight of only 5.5 pounds that doesn't include the Deskjet D2400 printer ink supplies. The paper tray can even fold up when the machine is not in use, making it even more condensed. The device can connect to both Windows and Mac computers, and it includes a USB port for direct connection, though it doesn't come with a USB cable in the box.
High-quality photo printing is a highlight, thanks to its 4800x1200 optimized resolution, but it also does an excellent job with standard text and graphics. The 80-sheet paper tray can also handle multiple media types, including photo paper, iron-on transfers, transparencies, envelopes, and more.
There are three types of HP D2400 ink cartridges available for this model. In addition to the standard black and tricolor Deskjet D2400 ink cartridges, a third "Photo Color" supply is available, and can be swapped with the black for more accurate color output. HP D2400 ink is a little on the pricey side, however, so those who print more regularly may need to find a more cost-effective model.
The Deskjet D2400 would make an excellent choice for buyers on a budget, and particularly for college dorm rooms, home offices, and other tight spaces, thanks to its compact design. Its speed and output quality are impressive, but its high operating costs are a bit disappointing.
