The HP LaserJet CP1215 color laser printer is designed for the home or small office user. Its barebones functionality and compact design make it very affordable, but competing units offer faster speeds and better quality for a similar price, like the HP 1600 toner printer.

The design of the HP CP1215 color laser printer is very compact, measuring 10 inches by 15.7 inches by 20 inches (HWD) and weighing 38.9 pounds, which is especially compact when compared to the HP CM2320 toner printer. Its footprint is small enough to fit into very tight office spaces, especially for a color laser. Its design is lacking in some respect, however. Its control panel is extremely sparse, with no LCD screen at all, but only a few status lights and buttons on its front. The included software provides access to all the necessary functionality, but competing units include an LCD screen for a similar price.

The HP CP1215n model includes built-in networking support, with an ethernet port for connecting directly to a network. Setting it up for networking is simple, and users can access the built-in web server to view status reports, manage print jobs, and monitor toner levels.

HP LaserJet CP1215 toner cartridges are arranged in the typical cyan, magenta, yellow, and black configuration. Each color laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 1,400 pages, while the black printer toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,200 pages. Unfortunately, the HP CP1215 toner cartridges included have only half the capacity of the full-size cartridges. HP toner costs are somewhat higher than competing units as well, resulting in a higher cost per page.
