Now discontinued, the HP Photosmart C5100 was once an affordable and reliable unit. These days, it is ancient, with low resolutions and lacking features common for newer models. Compatible with Windows and Mac, it connects via USB. Networking and wireless capabilities are not included—this inkjet device was well before the time of those options. Although no longer sold in stores, it is still relevant and being used in many small and home offices. The ink won't leave pockets empty—the cost of Photosmart C5100 ink is very economical.
With dimensions of 14x17.4x19.5 inches and a husky weight of 21 pounds, the C5100 is anything but compact and will probably make quite a footprint in any office. Most standard paper sizes can work in conjunction with the C5100—letter, legal, envelopes, transparency film, photo paper, cards and labels.
It only needs six HP C5100 ink cartridges to produce documents. One is standard black printer ink that has a resolution of 600x600 dpi. The other five are all color Photosmart C5100 ink cartridges—cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta. Because the inkjet device has this many tanks, the consumer will need to buy ink much less frequently than they would with a two or four tanked color printer. The HP C5100 ink is all inexpensive with page yields of at least 370. Though the unit itself might be hard to find, the printer ink is simple to acquire.
Mixed opinions are the result of the C5100. Some think that the machine is noisy and difficult to set up, while others find it to be the perfect fit for their home. The quality, however, is constantly praised. If it weren't for its lack of flashy features now offered standard on more recent models, the C5100 would probably still be at the top of its game.
