Much like a lot of inkjet printers, the HP Deskjet 970cxi is compatible with most major operating systems and offers a high speed USB connection for faster image transfers. It is much like its sister, the HP 970, except it has a duplexer. A duplexer provides the ability to automatically print on both sides of the paper. This is a great feature and is clearly more efficient than manual two-sided printing.

Able to connect via USB port and parallel interface, image transferring is faster than normal units, making the entire printing process less frustrating. However, output rates are only average. With black HP 970cxi ink, this unit can print 12 pages per minute. Using tricolor printer ink, it can only print about 3 pages. For color photo printing, a 4x6 inch borderless picture will at least take a minute, if not more.

This unit uses a method known as drop-on-demand technology. This is the system in which tiny dots of Deskjet 970cxi ink are ejected onto the page. Hundreds of dots cover every inch, thus creating a resolution. The HP 970cxi ink can conjure a resolution of 600x600 dpi (dots per inch). There are only two Deskjet 970cxi ink cartridges, one black and one tricolor, consisting of cyan, yellow and magenta printer ink.

The 970xci is compatible with Windows and Mac and has a monthly duty cycle of 5,000 pages when printing on only one side of the page. When using the duplexer, only 2,500 prints are recommended. If the device is used to its fullest capacity, the HP 970cxi ink cartridges will need to be replaced often.

There is an abundance of helpful software programs provided by HP, such as PhotoREt II and Colorsmart. Both are intended to enhance and clarify images so the best quality is reached. The HP Deskjet 970cxi is a good inkjet printer that will fit in most budgets.
