The HP Deskjet 933c is not only a compact inkjet to begin with, but it has a fold-up design to save even more space when it's not in use. Print speeds are a little disappointing, at a maximum of 9 pages per minute for black and 7.5 pages per minute for color, but print quality is solid. Prices for OEM HP 933c printer ink can be high, but third-party alternatives are more reasonable.
The 933c has a footprint of only 15.8x17.3 inches when printing, and it is 7.72 inches high. Its weight is 12.6 pounds, but this doesn't include the Deskjet 933c printer ink supplies. Both a USB and parallel port are included, and the software supports both Windows and Macintosh operating systems for true cross-platform compatibility.
The machine's input paper tray holds only 100 sheets, and the output tray holds up to 50 sheets. With both trays oriented toward the front, media will have to make a fairly sharp curve, which could lead to bending or paper jams with thicker media. The fact that the trays fold up to conserve space is a very nice touch, however, making it easy to share a desk with. It is also designed for quiet operation, so working in close proximity won't be an annoyance.
The main downside is the expensive cost of HP 933c ink cartridges. With yields of only 450 pages for the tricolor Deskjet 933c ink cartridge and 500 pages for black, the cost per page is quite high. Choosing remanufactured HP 933c ink instead of OEM supplies can make it a very affordable machine to operate, however.
For basic inkjet printing in the home, buyers could do worse than the HP 933c. Its compact, space-saving design and quiet operation are appealing, but its speed and output quality are not overly impressive.
