Though it was discontinued, the HP Deskjet 920 is an affordable printer with decent quality, which can still be purchased new and used from several third party vendors. With a 100 sheet capacity, it won't hold much paper, but for the home with little printing needs, it will work quite well.
Problems with the printer? There are a few, but most of them have to do with the lack of newer technologies this class of 2002 printer has. It has no networking capabilities, must be plugged into a computer to print and cannot connect to any Media interfaces, such as an SD card or digital camera. Another downside is its slow speed of 9 pages per minute using color HP 920 ink. It has dimensions of 17.3x15.7x7.7 inches, which is a little large for an inkjet unit that has minimal features. Its weight, however, is only 12.6 pounds. These problems, however, don't seem to out-weigh the wonderful quality of documents produced.
HP 920 ink cartridges are used with this device, and only two are needed. There is one tricolor and one black Deskjet 920 ink cartridge in the box upon purchase. The black printer ink has a yield of 500, while the tricolor has a yield of 450 pages. There is a 2400x1200 maximum resolution when printing while using the tricolor printer ink.
Consumer reviews, for the most part, are pretty positive. Though many wish that there were more features included, most can say they are happy with their decision to buy the Deskjet 920 inkjet unit. The photos created get praised time after time for their realistic images and good quality. The only real complaint lies in the speed. However, for those who print small quantities of pages at a time, this could be a great investment, considering its small price tag and low cost of HP 920 ink. Using it will be the easy part—finding it now that it's been discontinued could be a little harder.
