The HP Deskjet 810 is a basic inkjet printer with good print quality but low output rates. It has USB and parallel connections, with networking option. Designed specifically for home users, any family will find text and photo printing at a quality that matches professional labs. For a higher-yielding ink printer with the same quality, check out the Phaser 8400 ink printer. The biggest issue with this unit is production speed. Using black HP 810 ink, it prints at 6.5 pages per minute and 1.4 per minute in color.
There are many paper options for the 810, including letter, legal, executive, banner, A4, index cards, etc. It is compatible with Windows and Mac operation systems and houses USB and Parallel ports. With a built in RAM of 2 MB, the 810 is not prepared to handle heavy volume printing. However, for smaller jobs, this unit is efficient enough. If the business is growing and a more efficient machine for medium-scale printing, look toward the HP CP1215 toner printer.
There are two HP 810 ink cartridges, one with only black printer ink, and the other with magenta, cyan and yellow. This 2 tank system is commonly found in older machines, while more modern printers have at least 4-6. With page yields of 500-620 pages, the Deskjet 810 ink cartridges can last for a while but are still low capacity. The HP 810 ink can produce a maximum resolution of 600 dpi. Colorsmart II and PhotoREt II both help increase the accuracy and color coordination.
The 1,000 page per month duty cycle tells the story of endurance and longevity. Though the quality of color and black prints is high, the low capacity capabilities really prevent this inkjet unit from performing up to modern day standards. Small businesses do not want to be forced to replace tanks of Deskjet 810 ink as frequently as this device requires. As for larger businesses, a fast-paced, high-volume printer is needed with high-yielding cartridges, such as HP 5550 toner, which can produce nearly 12,000 pages.
Weighing 12 pounds and measuring 17.6x14x7.5 inches, the HP 810 can fit comfortably on most desks or small tables. It is relatively portable and quite simple to set up. It's not a bad printer, but for the printer ink cost and slow speeds, it is hard to justify this purchase.
