The HP Photosmart 7762w is a photo inkjet printer that adds wireless support to the mix, but still has some of the problems of similar models. Its speeds are a little slow, at 18 pages per minute for black and 13 pages per minute for color output, and the extra work involved in switching HP 7762w printer ink supplies for the best photo output can be time-consuming.
Sometimes referred to simply as the 7762, one of the 7762w's most touted features is its Wi-Fi support, which is quite easy to set up. For users who prefer a direction connection, it includes a rear USB port, and the front USB port and memory card slots can allow users to print right from their digital camera or memory for a quick and simple solution.
The 7762w certainly has some limitations, however. Its input paper tray can only hold a maximum of 100 sheets, so those with higher printing volumes may be disappointed. The included LCD screen is also monochrome-only, so previewing color photos can be a little difficult. The unit offers the ability to print a contact sheet as a workaround, but this uses extra Photosmart 7762w ink, and is a less-than-ideal solution.
Speaking of printer ink, the two standard HP 7762w ink cartridges can be augmented by a special photo supply. Users remove the black Photosmart 7762w ink cartridge and replace it with the optional photo color cartridge for 6-color printing and better results. The logistics of repeatedly swapping HP 7762w ink could be more than many users want to handle, however.
For a fairly simple photo inkjet printer, the HP 7762w is a little too expensive to operate. Its wireless support is a nice feature, and its print quality is impressive, but the overall package makes it hard to justify the purchase price compared to the competition.
