Although it is a little more expensive than some models in its class, the HP Photosmart 7655 color inkjet printer could be worth it for its excellent print quality. Its LCD is only monochrome, and HP 7655 printer ink is not cheap, but its print speeds of up to 12 pages per minute for black and 11 pages per minute for color are good enough for most home users.
The LCD screen on the 7655 is a nice upgrade from previous models with no way to preview images for printing, but it does lack color. As a workaround, the device can print a proof sheet of multiple photos, and a user can then select the ones they wish to print. It might be more work than the average user is willing to put in, however, especially when they can pay a little more for a model with a full-color screen.
Other than these quirks, the design of the 7655 is good. It measures 6.8x17.8x15.4 inches and weighs only 14.5 pounds without the Photosmart 7655 printer ink installed, making it ideal for use in smaller environments. In addition to the rear USB port, there is a front USB port for connecting digital cameras, and memory card slots for direct printing as well.
One of the main hurdles to overcome is the high cost of HP 7655 ink cartridges. Even with page yields of up to 520 for black and 400 for the tricolor supply, the cost per page for Photosmart 7655 ink cartridges is higher than much of the competition. Buyers can make it more affordable to operate by using remanufactured HP 7655 ink, however.
Overall, the Photosmart 7655 inkjet offers excellent photo quality and decent speeds. Ultimately, design quirks such as its monochrome LCD, it's somewhat high price tag, and its expensive running costs make it tough to recommend.
