The HP DeskWriter 660 is a simple printer aimed at regular people with basic printing needs. This unit is compatible with Mac operating systems and uses drop-on-demand technology, which dispenses printer ink through nozzles and applies it to a paper in tiny dots. The dots of HP 660 ink are layered to enhance the quality of images and text documents.
The two DeskWriter 660 ink cartridges are black and tricolor. The tricolor consists of cyan, magenta and yellow printer ink. The black and color tanks can produce 720 and 350 pages, respectively. Replacement HP 660 ink cartridges can be purchased online or at local office supplies stores. Brand new from the manufacturer, these replacement tanks will become an unwanted added expense. Remanufactured DeskWriter 660 ink is a third of the price of the OEM versions and produces the same quality.
Using the black HP 660 ink, up to 4 pages per minute can be produced at a maximum resolution of 600x600 dpi. The color ink can reach a resolution of 300x300 dpi, but it takes a full minute to produce a single page. These speeds and quality are not overly impressive but were considered above average when this inkjet unit was introduced to the market.
This printer is equipped with a 512 KB memory and is capable of printing on envelopes, transparencies, labels and cards. It is Energy Star qualified, which means it is environmentally friendly. It has a frame of 17.2x16x7.9 inches and weighs approximately 12 pounds. This relatively small size makes it easy to move and store, plus it will fit on basically any desk space.
This inkjet device has the same specifications and uses the same ink tanks as the Deskjet 660. The only difference is the operating systems it is compatible with. The DeskWriter 660 is a good printer that will last for years.
