The HP Deskjet 6120C is a color inkjet that attempts to inject some of the office-centric features of business machines into the compact chassis of a home or small office unit. It includes features like duplexing and fast speeds of up to 20 pages per minute black and 13 pages per minute in color, but HP 6120C printer ink can get expensive, and print quality is a bit lackluster.
The 6120C is easy to set up, and is compatible with both Windows and Mac platforms. It can connect via USB or parallel port, but don't expect a cable to be included in the box. The software CD and quick start guide walk users through the simple set up process, including loading paper and installing the Deskjet 6120C printer ink.
While it doesn't come with networking support, adapters can be used for wired or wireless networking, or even Bluetooth. The price of these adapters is likely to be more than choosing a model with the features included, however. Reviewers have noted disappointing print quality, with neither text nor graphics printing with solid output. Those who plan to print photos will do better choosing a model more tailored to this purpose as well, as this unit is designed for basic office printing.
Next to the poor print quality, the other downside of this model is its high prices for HP 6120C ink cartridges. Although the Deskjet 6120C ink cartridges have large yields of 830 pages for black and 450 pages for color, the OEM versions are not very economical. This problem, at least, has a solution, as remanufactured HP 6120C ink is available for less than half the price.
The HP 6120C would come more highly recommended if its print quality were better. Solid speeds and extra like duplexing add a lot of value, but most buyers would be better off buying an inkjet with better output quality.
