Any office environment these days is looking for a multi-functioning printer that will provide efficiency and save space and money. Home users, however, typically just want a simple color inkjet printer that can provide text documents quickly and has the capability to print quality photos. The HP DeskWriter 600 is a perfect fit for normal homes. It is an exact replica of the Deskjet 600, except it is compatible with Mac operating systems and not Windows.
There are two DeskWriter 600 ink cartridges that come with the printer upon purchase. One of them contains cyan, magenta and yellow printer ink, and the other one has only black. Using exclusively the black HP 600 ink, up to 4 pages per minute can be printed. When using the color printer ink, only 1 page can be printed per minute.
The tricolor HP 600 ink cartridge can yield up to 350 pages, while the black print ink tank can produce as many as 720 pages. Though there are higher capacity options out there, these page yields will be plenty for occasional users. The black DeskWriter 600 ink can produce a maximum resolution of 600x600 dpi, while the color can only reach 300x300 dpi. For an affordable, older inkjet unit, these resolutions are not bad.
Energy Star qualified, the 600 is environmentally friendly. It is also simple to maintain. Replacement tanks of HP 600 ink are affordable and can easily be purchased from the manufacturer or, for much less, from third party vendors.
This unit weighs less than 12 pounds and has a small frame, measuring only 17.2x16x7.9 inches. It can print on various canvases, including envelopes, cards, labels and transparencies. Though the HP 600 is a basic printer, it can also be versatile. The most important thing, though, is how dependable it is.
