In a world based around technology, machines only a few years old can seem outdated even if they offer all of the bare necessities that most users need. People want fancy features and convenience, but it seems unnecessary to constantly build brand new products. One solution is to use the same base model as previous devices but add more features. The HP DesignJet 488CA is very similar to other inkjet printers in this series, however it adds ethernet interface which allows multiple users to connect to it at the same time.
It has a built-in memory of 4 MB that can be upgraded to 36 MB if needed. There is also a 500 MB hard drive ensuring the 488CA can handle large tasks. This unit has a weight of 109 pounds and has an oversized frame that measures 40.9x9x31 inches. It will not be an easy machine to move around and it will take up a lot of space once it is installed.
The four HP 488CA ink cartridges that are supplied with the unit when purchased have the ability to print as many as 1,100 pages before expiring. Replacement DesignJet 488CA ink cartridges are available on the manufacturers website, from online vendors or in local supplies stores. Remanufactured printer ink is not available for this unit.
When using only the black HP 488CA ink, a resolution of 600x600 dpi can be reached, which will produce professional-quality text documents. The color printer ink can only reach a resolution of 300x300 dpi, so color prints may lack the accuracy and clarity users would prefer. The DesignJet 488CA ink will adhere to various types of paper such as glossy, coated, tracing and matte. Though the cost of replacement OEM HP 488CA ink may be a bit high, the low cost per page will allow this machine to fit into most budgets.
