Weighing nearly 70 pounds and measuring 52x9.1x13 inches, the HP DesignJet 450c is a power house of an inkjet printer. Unlike many similar units that came before this one, the 450c has color capabilities which will certainly be beneficial to advertising companies that require a large format printer. Engineering companies and architecture businesses will also get a lot of use out of it considering it specializes in accurate line drawings and illustrations.
As this inkjet printer is a little older and perhaps a bit outdated, the only connection options are serial and parallel ports. Another limiting connectivity issue is the fact that the 450c is only compatible with Windows operating systems so Mac and Linux users will need to look elsewhere. The processor is an Intel i960 which should provide efficient speeds depending on the task. Using only black HP 450c ink, it takes about 1.5 minutes per page. When printing in color, the average speed is 4 minutes per page.
All four DesignJet 450c ink cartridges have the capacity to print up to 1,100 pages. Each tank is filled with cyan, magenta, yellow or black printer ink. When printing in color, a maximum resolution of 300x300 dpi can be reached. However, when only the black HP 450c ink is used, the resolution maxes out at 600x600 dpi. Different media types can be used with this unit. For instance, plain paper, glossy paper and coated paper can all be printed on by the DesignJet 450c ink.
When purchased, the 450c comes with a built-in memory of 4 MB. This will be enough for users who print just an average amount. However, for those that need more memory, it can be upgraded to 36 MB. Replacement HP 450c ink cartridges can easily be purchased from the manufacturer or found online from various vendors.
