The HP DesignJet 430 is a 24" large format printer designed to produce precise illustrations, graphics and line drawings for companies that are based around architecture and engineering. This unit connects only to computers that use Windows operating systems, including Vista. Unfortunately, parallel and serial ports are the only ones built in to this machine. It lacks the more current and conventional USB port and does not offer networking via ethernet interface like many offices would prefer. However, the consumers that are looking for a basic, simple large format inkjet printer will find that the HP 430 can handle most tasks.
Only one HP 430 ink cartridge is used in this machine and it is filled with black printer ink only. Its monochromatic nature is fairly abnormal for inkjet printers, as most have a second cartridge that holds cyan, magenta and yellow ink. The DesignJet 430 ink can reach a maximum resolution of 600x600 dpi. Dpi is the measurement method for quality. It is based on the amount of printer ink droplets that are pushed through the nozzles and cover each inch of paper.
Because the prints are so large, it can take the HP 430 ink up 1.5 minutes to produce a standard printed page. The more complex and intricate the task is, the longer it will take to complete. The provided DesignJet 430 ink cartridges as well as replacements have a maximum printing capacity of 1,100 pages. When it is time to find replacement toners, there are a few options. New versions can be found in local supplies stores and on the HP website. Another option is remanufactured HP 430 ink, which is available on the internet from various third party vendors. This type of ink will produce the same resolution and page yield as the OEM but for a much more affordable price.
