The HP Deskjet 3745 inkjet printer is a great addition to any home office...if printing doesn't happen often. For those who print on a regular basis, this probably isn't the right unit, due to costly HP 3745 ink and recommended monthly volume of only 500 pages. For those with small quantity printing who want high quality and precision, the Deskjet 3745 is right on the money. There is a compatible model available, the HP 3745v, is also available.
The machine is flat, sleek and black and white. Weighing a petite 4.5 pounds with dimensions of 16.6x7.2x5.6 inches, it's difficult to believe this machine would even work. However, it holds up to other similar models fairly well. When it comes to speed, the HP 3745 inkjet unit is somewhat lagging. With black printer ink, it will only print 14 pages per minute. Using color Deskjet 3745 ink, it will print a mere 7.5 pages per minute. If printing multiple pages, this machine will definitely slow production down.
Two HP 3745 ink cartridges are used in the unit. One is black printer ink which prints at a resolution of 1200x1200 dpi. The tricolor HP 3745 ink prints at a resolution of 4800x4800 dpi. Though many printers have better resolution, for the price tag, it's a steal. Even though the unit itself is reasonably priced, the HP Deskjet 3745 ink cartridges are not. The page yields are only 190 and 220 for color and black printing, respectively. This will become an expense quickly. However, if minimal printing is all that is needed, the price will not seem too expensive.
Though the unit seems a little outdated, lacking many capabilities and features of newer models, it is a good fit for users who have minimal printing needs. Users tend to like the quality of produced images and included software. The only real complaint has to do with the high HP 3745 ink consumption. For the most part, buyers are happy with their product.
