The HP Mopier 320 seems like a bit of an experiment in modular design. It operates quite well as a standalone laser printer, but can also connect to the Digital Copy 320 for copying features right from a desk. Even without this extra device, it can print at up to 32 pages per minute, with excellent output quality, and although OEM Mopier 320 toner is a bit expensive, compatible toners are available at lower costs.
The 320 is built to handle a heavy workload, with a maximum monthly duty cycle of 150,000 pages, which gives it a lot of room for expansion. The standard paper handling setup includes two 500-sheet trays and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray for envelopes, labels, transparencies, and more. With support for sizes up to 11x17 inches for media, users aren't restricted to smaller paper.
Automatic duplexing is included, for two-sided printing that can conserve paper, and a Proof-and-Hold feature can reduce wasted HP 320 toner and paper by letting users approve the first page before continuing the batch. The LCD on the control panel is simple, but large enough for easy navigation and an HP JetDirect print server is integrated right in for easy connection to a network.
The HP 320 toner cartridges have very large capacities of up to 20,000 pages each, but only come in one size. While this makes for a fairly low cost per page for Mopier 320 toner cartridges, it doesn't give buyers as much control over the best price and size for their budget.
The modular design of the Mopier 320 is fairly unique, and could certainly appeal to the right type of office environment. As a standalone laser printer, however, its speeds are not overly impressive, and multiple capacities of HP 320 toner supplies would have been nice.
