The HP DeskWriter 320 is an all-in-one inkjet printer designed for low-volume use in a home or small office. Some may even refer to it as a personal printer, but typically home users with no work-related printing needs do not require a scanner and copy machine in addition to a color printer. Almost an exact replica to the Deskjet 320, the DeskWriter 320 was built to work in conjunction with Mac computers and operating systems, thus featuring a different interface.
The innovative drop-on-demand technology used in most HP inkjet units uses hundreds of nozzles to eject thousands of dots of HP 320 ink. The printer ink then gets applied to the page and layered for more realistic color tones. When using only the black DeskWriter 320 ink, a resolution of 1200x1200 dpi (dots per inch) can be reached, while 4800x1200 dpi can be obtained with color. The scanner has a max resolution of 1200 dpi, and the copier can yield 1200 using tricolor HP 320 ink and 600 dpi in black.
There are two separate DeskWriter 320 ink cartridges that come with this printer, and one contains cyan, magenta and yellow printer ink, while the other holds only black. Replacement tanks can be purchased new from HP or remanufactured from third party vendors for a much more affordable price. The tricolor HP 320 ink cartridge can only produce up 640 pages per container, while the black can yield even less at 595 pages. These low page yields mean replacements will be necessary more often than most users would probably prefer.
Equipped with a 32 MB memory and a 100-sheet input tray, the 320 is reliable and functions without constant maintenance. It can print on various types of paper and has a 48-bit internal color depth which helps to produce realistic and vibrant colors.
