The HP LaserJet 2700 color laser printer is designed for the small or medium office environment. It has fast speeds and great print quality to offer, but its price is a little high compared to the competition.
Similar models can certainly be found for less, but most compromise on speed, quality, or paper capacity, while the HP 2700 color laser printer does not. There is a lot included in the unit for the extra price. For example, the 64 MB of memory that comes standard is double the amount of most competing units, and can be expanded to 320 MB. Its 50,000 monthly duty cycle is double most of its competition as well. Paper capacity is 250 sheets in the standard tray and 100 sheets in the multipurpose tray, but this can also be expanded with an optional 500 sheet paper tray.
It also includes an ethernet port for connecting and sharing it across a network of computers. The machine has a server built in that can be accessed via browser on any connected computer. This interface lets users view status and manage print jobs.
HP LaserJet 2700 toner cartridges are more expensive than many similar models. For example, Laserjet 2840 toner is significantly less expensive, despite having similar capacities. HP 2700 toner cartridges have a modest capacity of 3,500 pages for each color laser toner cartridge, and 6,500 pages for the single black printer toner cartridge.
Print speed is one of the main draws. Black printing speed is 20 pages per minute and 15 pages per minute for color. This is much faster than less expensive models, and a bit faster than competing models at this price point, most of which do not match the 2700 in print quality. Text is especially dark, sharp, and defined, and remains readable even at the smallest font sizes.
Overall, the HP LaserJet 2700 has great value, even if it is more expensive than seemingly similar models. It bests the competition by having faster speeds and better quality, even though it does cost a bit more.
