The HP LaserJet 2605dn color laser printer is designed for the small or medium office environment. It has great print quality in both monochrome and color, affordable printer toner and some nice extras like a memory card reader.

The HP 2605dn color laser printer is one of the most affordably-priced in its class, and it provides excellent print quality. If you also need fax, copy and scan capaibility, evaluate the HP 2840 toner printer. Text quality is especially impressive, with well-formed letters readable even at very small font sizes. Graphics printing is a little better than average for a laser. Color printing is quite good, especially for the price. Colors are generally accurate, and even photos turn out quite well, especially when printing on glossy paper.

The design of the unit is not exactly compact, but it is not overly bulky, either. It measures 20.2 inches by 16.1 inches by 17.8 inches (HWD), and weighs 52.1 pounds which is slightly larger and heavier than the HP 2500 toner printer. It won't fit in the tightest spaces, but it does not take up an inordinate amount of space. Two 250-sheet input trays are located on the bottom, and the output tray is on top, with a capacity of 125 sheets. The unit includes memory card slots for printing directly from a memory card, a very nice bonus. There are also two models, the 2605dn and 2605dtn, which add duplexing and extra paper capacity, respectively.

Print speeds are fairly disappointing. Black prints are around 9 pages per minute, while color prints are around 6 pages per minute. At these speeds, it falls behind much of its competition, but its print quality is better than most of the same competition. Users will have to decide for themselves whether this is a worthwhile tradeoff for their needs.

HP LaserJet 2605dn toner cartridges are easy to access and replace. The black printer toner cartridge has a capacity of around 2,500 pages and each color laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,000 pages. It is nice to see that the unit includes full-size HP 2605dn toner cartridges with the printer instead of the starter HP toner cartridge that other models include.

Overall, the LaserJet 2605dn is a solid color laser with great print quality and some nice extra features. Slow speeds may be a serious problem for some buyers.
