The HP LaserJet 1600 color laser printer is designed for the individual or small office that wants to step up to the speed and quality of laser printing without the cost of larger office units. The 1600 connects only via USB as there is not an Ethernet port, which is a cost-saving measure, and should be suitable for personal use. If network sharing is still a necessity, it can be accomplished through the PC the unit is connected to.

The unit ships with starter HP LaserJet 1600 printer toner cartridges which have a capacity of 1,000 pages. High-capacity HP 1600 toner cartridges are available and have a capacity of 2,500 for the black toner cartridge and 2,000 for each color laser toner cartridge. Print speed is around 8 pages per minute in both black and color printing. Print quality is excellent and very sharp. Although the unit only supports 600 dpi resolution, it includes PhotoRET technology, which simulates higher resolutions, allowing for sharper text and graphics than similar 600 dpi models.

The unit includes helpful software to manage print jobs, just like the HP 2500 toner printer, enabling ink saving features, and change the multitude of options available for the unit. A 250-sheet input tray is included, and there is an optional 250-sheet tray available for those who need it.
