The HP LaserJet 1320 laser printer is designed for the home or small office user. It has good printing speeds and a simple, intuitive design. It is a little pricier than competing products, however HP toner cartridges are widely available and prices for compatible cartridges are extremely affordable and reliable making overal operation costs lower.
The design of the HP 1320 laser printer is a typical rectangular-style business machine design, similar to the LaserJet 2500 toner printer. It does keep things simple and intuitive. The control panel has only two buttons and three indicator lights, which is more than enough for the functions available. It is a little larger than similar models, but not overly bulky. It measures 10 inches by 13.8 inches by 14 inches, and weighs around 24.7 pounds. Its paper capacity is 250 sheets, but it can be expanded to a maximum of 500 sheets with an additional tray. A single-sheet multipurpose slot allows loading of other media types and sizes.
Duplexing (two-sided printing) on the toner printer is included, so users won't need to feed pages back through the machine, and it opens up more options for printing. Duplex printing can be enabled as the default option, and can save a considerable amount of paper, and therefore operating costs, when utilized. Networking is not included by default, but can be added as an option. While this is a nice option to have, it is an expensive upgrade. The unit can also be networked with a print server or a host computer connected to the network.
Multiple models are available. The 1320 is the base model, the 1320n adds networking, the 1320nw adds wireless networking, the 1320t has extra paper capacity, and the 1320tn has networking and extra paper capacity. All models utilize the same toner cartridges, which are similar in design to Brother toner cartridges.
Print speed is quite fast at around 17 pages per minute. Print quality is impressive, text is sharp, dark, and detailed. Graphics quality is impressive as well. The unit includes ProRes 1200 technology, which enhances printing to approximate 1200 dpi printing. This improves graphics quality even more, eliminating some of the problems that show up without using it.
HP LaserJet 1320 toner cartridges come in two sizes. The standard laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,500 pages, while the high-yield printer toner cartridge has a capacity of 6,000 pages. HP 1320 toner cartridges are very affordably-priced, resulting in a low cost per page.
Overall, the HP LaserJet 1320 is a very solid small office printer, with fast speeds and good quality. The network upgrade is a bit expensive, but expandability options allow it to grow in the future.
