Looking for a personal inkjet printer for the home or small office? Consider the HP Deskjet 1220. With a size of 23.3x15x9.2 inches, it will fit small desks and workspaces easily, while still making a significant footprint. Its weight of 22 pounds will be a little heavier to lift than many on the market, though. Using two HP 1220 ink cartridges filled with tricolor and black printer ink, it can print exceptionally well on transparencies, envelopes, iron-on transfers, plain paper, greeting cards, labels and photo paper, and most standard sizes of each are compatible. It is also compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems. It doesn't offer copying, scanning or faxing, which could be a major drawback due to the fact that most current models on the market are packed with features and functions.
Using the black Deskjet 1220 ink cartridge, resolutions as high as 600x600 dpi are possible. The color resolutions can reach as high as 2400x1200 dpi. The speeds are somewhat slow—using black and color HP 1220 ink only 11 pages per minute and 2.8 pages per minute can be printed, respectively.
Customer reviews of the HP Deskjet 1220 are rather mixed. Users dislike the low yields of the HP 1220 ink, and many have noticed the yellow printer ink tend to run out the quickest. Printer jams are a common complaint, and many have found that the Deskjet 1220 is just not durable, breaking down and throwing tantrums often. Others complain that this inkjet unit is slow and it eats Deskjet 1220 ink. Multiple users also complain that printing with thicker papers, like photo paper, is nearly impossible, and paper handling has been called a "nightmare" more than once. The quality, however, has never been poorly reviewed, and users really love having the ability to print on large papers.
