1018
The HP LaserJet 1018 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the personal or small office user. Its ultra-compact design makes it a great choice for very small office spaces, but competing models, such as HP featuring HP C4127X toner, offer a bit more for a similar price.
The HP 1018 comes in as one of the smallest laser printers available. It measures only 8.2 inches by 14.6 inches by 9.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 11 pounds. This makes it ideal for users who are limited on space and/or users who need some amount of portability, such as college students. At a price and form factor very similar to a high-end inkjet printer, the upgrade to laser-quality prints and toner become very appealing and rank above Canon 2662B001AA toner.
The HP 1018 does have a few downsides, however. First, there is no USB cable included with the printer. This is a minor issue, to be sure, but a cost-cutting measure that is becoming too common for printer manufacturers. Second, the HP 1018 is a bit on the slow side compared to the competition. At 12 pages per minute, it falls behind similar models at a similar price point. Though many personal laser printers do not include an ethernet port, a few competing models have the feature built in for only a slightly higher price, making the HP 1018 a little less appealing.
Print quality is excellent. Text is particularly good, with sharp characters and readable text at even the smallest fonts. Graphics quality is merely average, a typical problem with laser printers in general, even when using color cartridges, like the Brother TN115M toner. The HP 1018 handles a large variety of media types and sizes, and includes a single-sheet manual feed slot for media types that don't fit in the standard tray. Paper capacity is 150 sheets in the main paper tray, which is on the small end of personal printers.
Overall, the HP LaserJet 1018 is a great choice for the smallest office spaces. Great print quality and decent speeds are assets, but slow speeds and lack of an ethernet port put it a little behind the competition.
