The Gestetner Corporation began in 1881. Created by David Gestetner of London, England in 1881, the company was originally called Gestetner Cyclograph Company. In the beginning, the company produced ink rollers and stencils. Soon, Getetner patented an invention called the duplicating machine that became very popular very fast. By 1906, he had opened the doors to the public and had thousands of people employed. His invention not only gained success, but it became a need-to-have product for offices nationally and internationally alike.
In 1995, Ricoh bought the company and has since merged the Lanier network and Gestetner networks together. Because the products from both companies were very similar, this transition was easy. Also, now that the companies are merged, finding products and compatible models is much easier. Products between the companies are interchangeable, meaning if users want to substitute their Gestetner product for a Lanier product, consumers are free to do so.
Nowadays, most people don't know what a duplicating machine is, because copiers have taken over the market. Gestetner's products are in sync with the times, though. Now products like multi-function color devices, multi-function monochrome devices, printers, scanners, facsimiles, copy printers, wide format devices and production printers are all being manufactured. These machines come in all different shapes and sizes, and no matter what needs an office or personal user has, there is a Gestetner product available.
Gestetner, along with the Ricoh Group, does their best to minimize the products' impact on the environment. Environmental conservation has helped the company to win multiple awards for their holistic environment strategies. The majority of their products are Energy Star certified as well. The company's philosophy, "Our Earth, Our Tomorrow" proves how serious the company is about their effect on the environment.
Though Gestetner may not be the most well known company on the market these days, it certainly is one of the most versatile and environmentally friendly.
