Rated as a desktop unit, although it weighs 170 pounds, the Gestetner DSc38 color laser workgroup printer can increase your document printing capacity and the professionalism of your prints. The weight of the printer almost certainly prohibits its use as a desktop machine but a shelving unit or optional accessories can make it a great stand alone addition to your office. An RM7000 250 MHz processor powers the DSc38 and provides ample processing for complex documents providing crisp high quality black and white prints at 38 pages per minute. Text is presented well down to small font sizes.

Color printer toner cartridges are transferred using laser photographic print technology and are simple enough to replace via an access panel. Color documents are printed slower than the monochrome prints and lower than the company quoted speeds of 28 pages per minute on color, averaging about 20 pages per minute. Photos are printed in an acceptable manner and work well for most business applications. Your first black and white document is out in less than 7 seconds and color is out in 9.

The standard memory of 64 MB is fair, but to produce higher quality and faster prints you will need to upgrade; a maximum of 384 MB can be used for memory on the Gestetner DSc38 printers. Networking is enabled through USB or 10/100Base-TX ethernet interfaces and an IEEE 1394 is available for Windows 2000 users. Finishing options include a stapler, mail sorter, stacker and duplexing additions to increase production.
