The Epson Stylus Color 760 is an inkjet printer that has been discontinued by Epson but once was considered top-of-the-line. It is popular in homes because it can print a beautiful and realistic 4x6 color photo in 50 seconds and an 8x10 in 1 minute and 49 seconds. The 760 is also popular in small offices because of the precision and clarity of documents, presentations, newsletters, etc. Using only black Epson 760 ink, this machine can print up to 7 pages a minute and up to 6 pages a minute using color printer ink. The black ink tank can yield up to 900 pages, which towers over competing models, such as Canon BCI-6BK ink.
The Stylus Color 760 is compatible with Mac and Windows, and it houses a parallel port as well as a USB port. It also has an optional ethernet interface and memory upgrade if the 256KB buffer isn't quite enough. It weighs right around 13 pounds and measures 17.7x10.6x6.9 inches without attachments and 17.7x24.7x11.9 inches with. It isn't small and compact, but it also isn't overwhelming and would fit nicely on any desk or table.
Using the Picture Perfect Imaging System, Epson 760 ink is dispensed from nozzles in 4 picoliter drops. The tiny and fine printer ink droplets make up an image at a maximum resolution of 1440x720 dpi. There are only 2 Stylus Color 760 ink cartridges, black and color, both using 144 nozzles. Unfortunately for any consumer with high volume printing needs, the Epson 760 ink cartridges do not have a high page yield. For those users, a Phaser 8560 with high yielding (3.4k) Xerox 108R00723 ink.
There are many features that make the 760 a better choice than others in the same price range. There are flashing lights to alert users when Epson 760 ink is running low, and there is also an automatic half-toning feature that enhances flesh tones. The Stylus Color 760 ink is quick dry, which eliminates running and smudging, however it does not produce higher quality prints as some of other ink on the market, such as Brother LC61BK ink. Overall, the Epson 760 is a good addition to any home office or business environment.
