The Epson Stylus Color 740 inkjet printer is compatible with Windows and Mac. Though it was once a pioneer, with new technologies being revealed every day, it has become somewhat of an antique. However, the quality of images and text documents are still reasonably impressive and acceptable in the business world. In its glory days, the Stylus 740 was awarded for the high quality of photo color. The 740i model is also available with most of the same features as the original.

It can print up to 6 pages per minute using black Epson 740 ink, and 5 pages a minute for color documents. The 4x6 color photos take a minimum of 80 seconds, and the 8x10 takes almost 3 minutes. Needless to say, speed is not a selling point for this unit. It does offer a USB port as well as a parallel port and has been complemented on the ease of the initial set-up. It also houses a 256KB, which isn't too shabby and can always be upgraded.

The 740 was a general in the revolution of ink technology, leading the charge using PicturePerfect Imaging System, a new way to create color images. Only two Stylus Color 740 ink cartridges are present in this unit, black and color. The innovative aspect comes from the 200+ nozzles that dispense the smallest droplets of printer ink consumers had ever seen at the time. The Epson 740 ink was spread onto the page in minuscule droplets, creating more vivid and accurate pictures at a resolution of up to 1440x720 dpi. Just like with pixels on a digital camera, the more droplets the better image.

The black Epson ink cartridge has a lifespan of approximately 900 text documents and 634 graphics, while the color printer ink tank last for about 300 pages. Fortunately, the replacements of Stylus Color 740 ink are affordable and just as durable. This printer was the first step in changing the way the world prints at home and in the office.
