The new millennium brought Napster, George W. Bush and worldwide panic of a massive computer failure. It also brought the Epson Stylus 3000—an innovative photo printer designed for large formats. Clearly aimed at graphic designers, this inkjet unit towered over the competition, literally and figuratively. Weighing almost 38 pounds and measuring 31.91x22.26x9.46 inches, the Epson 3000 was far from portable but still able to fit on a standard sized desk.

Ten or so years ago, output speed was a thing of the future and this unit was no different, printing only 6 pages per minute using black Epson 3000 ink. When using the color printer ink, the output rate was half that. The high capacity Stylus 3000 ink manifests a resolution of 1440x220 dpi, which is pretty impressive for the technology level at that time.

Though this unit has been discontinued by Epson, the Stylus 3000 ink cartridges are still available for an affordable price from third party vendors. Every printer ink tank can be installed and replaced separately from the others, and each is high capacity, allowing consumers to get more prints out of each Epson 3000 ink cartridge. They are also Quickdry cartridges, reducing smudging and smearing.

Compatible with Mac and Windows, this inkjet unit is virtually an antique that is worth a lot of money. The quality of prints are pretty good, though do not compare to more recent color photo printers. However, the once revolutionary PerfectPicture Imaging System used Epson 3000 ink and Micro Piezo technology to produce images ahead of its time.
