The Epson Stylus Photo 1280 is an inkjet printer that is designed for personal use and specializes in producing high-quality photos. The days of take film to photo labs are over. In the privacy of a home, a vivid 4x6" picture can print out with a maximum resolution of 1440x720 dpi in less than a minute. An 8x10" takes a little less than a minute and an 11x14" picture will print in less than 4 minutes.

There are many features built into this machine that make it ideal for home use. The parallel and USB port connections are available and the 1280 is compatible with all major operating systems. It has a monthly duty cycle of 25,000 prints, though Epson does not recommend that high volume of use. The input paper tray holds 100 sheets of standard paper or 10 envelopes and the output tray holds only 30 pages. There is an indicator that automatically alerts the users when Epson 1280 ink is running low.

There are hundreds of nozzles used for the drop-on-demand printing technology. Pressure builds behind the nozzle, pushing small drops of Stylus Photo 1280 ink through. Each 4 picoliter dot of printer ink covers each inch of paper, creating a DPI (dots per inch) resolution. There are four different colors of Epson 1280 ink that is used in this machine- cyan, magenta, yellow and black. However, only two Stylus Photo 1280 ink cartridges are used.

The Epson 1280 ink cartridge that holds only black printer ink will produce up to 370 pages before expiration but the tri-color tank has a maximum page yield of 330 prints. The frame of the machine measures 24x30x16 inches and has a light weight of only 18 pounds. Overall, the 1280 is a solid choice for users looking for a personal inkjet printer to print quality pictures.
