Designed as a photo printer, the Canon S900 is geared towards amateur and professional photographers. This is one of Canon's third-generation of photo printers, so the technology is more refined. The Canon S900 ink is dispensed through a print head with 3,072 nozzles. Print speed is fairly fast, completing an 8.5" x 11" print in two minutes. Borderless 4" x 6" prints are completed in just 37 seconds. This is faster than Canon's S800.
The S900 features 2400 x 1200 dpi resolution for color and black and white. The Canon S900 can handle its printing duties on high-gloss photo film, high-resolution paper, transparencies, plain paper, photo paper, glossy photo cards, envelopes, banners and glossy photo paper. The S900 incorporates the same ink tanks and print head as the Canon S9000 printer. Six individual ink tanks are used, one for each color The Canon S900 ink cartridges are attached to a low-ink sensor that warns the user before a cartridge runs dry. Canon S900 inkjet cartridges make use of Canon's advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology. The high number of print head nozzles allows for increased printing speed.
The Canon Easy Photo Print program, one of the bundled applications that comes with the S900, allows for Exif 2.2 compatibility. Camera setting information can be included with the image file. Wired USB connectivity allows for easy connection to Mac or PC.
