The Canon PC860 is a monochrome laser copier designed for the home or small office user. Its copy quality and fast speeds are impressive, and its automatic exposure settings are convenient. Its bulky size might sway some users toward an all-in-one machine, however. Those who want standard printing won't be satisfied either and may find a machine that uses Okidata 43487734 toner to be more appropriate.
The Canon PC860 laser copier is geared toward the small office that requires a copy machine, but doesn't want the bulk or cost of a full-size machine. While it is relatively compact, it tends to be bulkier than some personal copiers, and for about the same footprint and a similar price, users could buy an all-in-one machine that has printing, scanning, and faxing functions as well, though copy quality and speed may not be as good.
One of the things that makes copy quality so good is the unit's automatic exposure settings, which automatically adjust for different types of originals, such as photos and newspapers. The unit also uses Canon's SURF technology, which gives the unit virtually no warmup time, so it can be ready to copy almost immediately after turning on, which is rarely the case with full-size copy machines.
The unit includes a starter laser toner cartridge with a capacity of 1,900 pages. Canon PC860 toner cartridges have a capacity of 4,000 pages. For a higher capacity toner check out Dell 310-8094 toner. The PC860's single copier toner cartridge includes the drum and toner in one, making it the only consumable that needs to be replace, which is very convenient. There is also a toner save mode, which reduces toner consumption, saving money for the user.
Copy quality is excellent, but a color machine like the Oki 5800 that uses Okidata 43324401 toner. Copy speed is quite good for the size and price, at around 12 copies per minute. As stated, many all-in-one machines can match its speed for about the same price, however.
Overall, the Canon PC860 laser copier is a very capable copy machine in a relatively compact package. Many users may opt for a similarly-priced multifunction device instead.
