The Canon PC740 is a monochrome laser copier designed for the home or small office user. It offers fast speeds and an excellent feature set, as well as an automatic document feeder. For the price, some users might consider an all-in-one machine, however.
The Canon PC740 laser copier includes many convenient and cost-saving features that make it stand out from the competition. Its RAPID fusing system allows it to be ready to copy with virtually no warmup time, allowing users to get to work faster than with competing units. It has both a flatbed scanning surface and a very convenient automatic document feeder, which allows users to scan up to 30 pages at once automatically. Paper capacity is also quite large given the size of the unit, with a 250 sheet main tray that means less reloading of paper. For printing without all of these features, try a model like the Dell 1320c, which uses Dell 310-9062 toner.
The standard array of copying features is included as well, such as zoom ratios from 70% to 141%, even in 1% increments. It has both automatic and manual exposure adjustments for improved scans. In addition to the standard black cartridge, single-color cartridges are available in blue, red, green, and brown. Given that they only have a capacity of 1,000 pages, and are hard to find available, they are of limited use, however. If color capabilites are desired, perhaps a model that uses Okidata 43034801 toner might be a better idea.
Canon PC740 toner cartridges have a capacity of 4,000 pages, so they won't need to be replaced often, though the included copier toner cartridge has a capacity of only 1,000 pages. The laser toner cartridge includes all consumables, such as the toner and drum, in a singe cartridge for convenience. For more pages per cartridge, try Dell 330-1198 toner.
Copy speed is quite fast, at around 10 copies per minute, though many all-in-one machines offer similar speed with printing, scanning, and faxing features included for a similar price. Copy quality is excellent.
Overall, the Canon PC740 laser copier offers excellent copy quality and speed for its compact size, but many all-in-one machines offer more for the price.
