The Canon PC730 laser copier is designed for the home or small office user. It features relatively fast copy speeds and a compact design the won't take up too much space in a crowded office. It has black-and-white capabilites, so if something with color is needed, consider a model that uses Lexmark C5240MH toner.
The Canon PC730 laser copier is relatively compact. It measures 11.25 inches by 19.1 inches by 17.3 inches and weighs 44 pounds. For its compact size, it still manages to provide a lot of functionality and a good feature set. It has a paper capacity of 250 sheets, and even has a single-sheet bypass slot for alternate media types and sizes. It can support paper sizes up to legal size. It supports reduction and enlargement from 70% to 141%. Unlike some smaller models from Canon, this machine has a stationary platen while scanning, which is more convenient for large books and other bulky materials.
The unit will function quite well as a personal copy machine, or even shared among a small office, though it is not designed for high volume use. Its suggested monthly duty cycle is only 1,500 copies. Lack of an automatic document feeder may slow down an office with too many users, as well.
Canon PC730 toner cartridges have a capacity of 4,000 pages, but if more pages per cartridge are needed, try a product that uses Dell 310-8094 toner. Each laser toner cartridge includes both the toner and the drum, so it is the only consumable for the unit. The copier toner cartridge is simple to access and to replace, and cartridges are affordably-priced, for a low cost per page.
Copy speed is good, at 10 pages per minute, though it falls behind the speed of some multifunction devices that cost only a little more. Copy quality is average, with some copies coming out too dark. This can be fixed with the manual exposure settings, however. Models that use Konica-Minolta 1710587-004 toner also offer higher quality, but this is for a higher price.
Overall, the Canon PC730 is a good copy machine that will meet the needs of most personal users quite well. For a little more money, some users might opt for a multifunction device with faster speeds.
