An inkjet photo printer is becoming somewhat of a staple in American homes. As rare as it is to see someone using a disposable camera, it is just as infrequently to see a person bring film to a local photo lab to be developed. These days, most people take pictures with digital cameras, eliminating the need for film. When they want to print out the images, rather than putting them on a disk and bringing them to the store, personal photo printers, like the Canon PIXMA MP499 deliver the same quality photos, just more affordable and convenient. This particular unit has multiple purposes and performs all tasks with durability and accuracy.
Measuring 17.8x13.2x6.0 inches and weighing just over 12 pounds, not surprising considering it needs only 2 Canon MP499 ink cartridges for operation. The frame is compact and sleek, blending perfectly with home office décor. Though it takes nearly 41 seconds to print a single 4x6 color photo, the average output rate is not bad at 8.8 pages per minute using black Canon MP499 ink and 5 pages per minute in color. The two standard PIXMA MP499 ink cartridges hold black, cyan, magenta and yellow printer ink.
This machine offers a variety of functions besides exceptional photo printing. The MP499 can make copies and scan documents with the flatbed scanner that sits on the top panel of the machine. The 1,472 nozzles on the printheads push out small droplets of PIXMA MP499 ink that cover every inch of paper. This creates a DPI resolution. The maximum resolution using only black printer ink is 600x600 dpi; however the color Canon MP499 ink elevates the resolution to 4800x1200 dpi. In additional to all of these features, the MP499 can perform through wireless technology, providing additional convenience and versatility to consumers of this color inkjet printer.

The Canon PIXMA MP499 can scan and print wirelessly, as well as make copies, and it is compatible with iOS and Android devices for wireless mobile printing as well. It can reach ESAT-rated speeds of 8.8 images per minute in black and 5 images per minute in color, and its 4800 dpi resolution provides sharp text and photos.
Power the printer on, if it is not already, and make sure the front paper tray is open. Lift up from inside the paper tray opening to access the cartridges. Make sure the prop lever slides forward to hold the top of the printer firmly in place.
When the Canon MP499 ink cartridge carrier moves to the center, notice the B and C markings for the black and color cartridges. Open the cover by pinching the small handles and lifting up. With the cover out of the way, grasp the handle to lift the cartridge out.
Once you have removed the PIXMA MP499 ink cartridge from its box and opened and removed the bag, you will find either a piece of tape or a plastic protector covering the printheads. The tape can be removed by pulling it gently. The plastic protector has two handles that must be squeezed toward each other to pry it off.
Place the new MP499 ink cartridge into the opening of the cartridge carrier, making sure it is flat before you lower the small cover down and snap it securely.
Lift the top of the printer upward while you press on the plastic lever, then lower the cover down as the lever folds backward out of the way.
You are now ready to resume printing with your Canon PIXMA MP499 printer.
